Michael J. Sohmer, an experienced clinical pharmacist with over four decades of diverse practice, holds a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Maryland at Baltimore. Throughout his career, Michael has been deeply involved in clinical work, care planning, and medication management.
At Rady Children’s Home Care Pharmacy in San Diego, Michael served as a Clinical Pharmacist Specialist, ensuring the accuracy and safety of pediatric patients’ home care infusion orders. Prior to this, he played a vital role at San Diego Hospice & The Institute for Palliative Medicine, specializing in pain management and end-of-life symptom care while mentoring students and fellows.
Michael’s commitment extends to disaster response and humanitarian efforts, having served as Chief Pharmacist for the San Diego County Metropolitan Medical Strike Team and currently as Deputy Commander for DMAT San Diego CA-4. Notably, he led a medical team to Nepal following the 2015 earthquake, providing critical care to over 500 injured individuals in remote villages.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Michael is an avid aviator and scuba diver, holding a private pilot’s license and various diving certifications. With dedication and expertise, he continues to make a positive impact on patient care and community health initiatives.

Hem Rai, a Nepali native, is a visionary that enjoys sharing the fascinating culture of his home village. Hem’s mission is to help people re-connect to the Earth. Before opening his first handicraft shop, Hem was a Sherpa, taking people on treks throughout the tough terrain of the Himalayan region. With his passion for travel and exploration, he was able to experience many cultures along the way. It was his love for people that inspired him to create his vision, “Earths Elements.”
Now, Hem is a very successful entrepreneur and has developed a robust supply chain with businesses from all over the world that support both his retail and wholesale organizations.
Hem is hardworking and dedicated to both his wife and children making his dreams a reality. He has created jobs in both the United States and abroad and has created a culture of high ethics and respect for everyone that is part of this family.
Earths Elements creation was to bring handicrafts inspired by nature from all over the world for all who desire to access. The doors opened in 2012 with the first store located in the beautiful beach city of Encinitas, California. With great support from the community, more were calling for another shop to open. Since then, Earths Elements now has numerous locations throughout California.
